Thermal Heart+ and Solux-E

Elegant solutions to new insulation requirements

On November 2, 2023, a significant milestone was reached with the implementation of the H1 clause in the building code. This clause involves the elevation of the minimum construction R-value, effecting changes aimed at enhancing insulation requirements for roofs, walls, floors, windows and doors. The objective is to promote healthier homes with improved energy efficiency.

A crucial aspect of this insulation transformation is the role played by glazing, which constitutes one of the largest surface areas of the building envelope (the protective ‘skin’ that separates the indoors from the outdoors). To meet these new requirements, our window supplier, Vantage Windows North Shore, offers a straightforward solution for homeowners: the Thermal Heart+ system paired with Solux-E glass (low-E).

In contrast to the conventional ‘cold frame’, where cold easily conducts through aluminium due to its high thermal conductivity (earning it the name ‘cold frame’), the Thermal Heart+ utilizes a thermal break. This incorporates the introduction of a polyamide barrier within the frame, to offer insulation and hinder the effortless transfer of cold (and heat in summer) from outside. Once the window is thermally broken, the frame ceases to conduct cold to the interior, resulting in a consistently warm frame. This distinction is why it is commonly referred to as a ‘warm frame’, to differentiate from the traditional frame.

Point of difference

In addition to Thermal Heart+ providing improved R-value, low-E glass is another important element. Low E (low emissivity) is a virtually invisible coating applied to double-glazing with two distinct functions: it retains heat and it blocks excessive heat.

It’s worth noting that many low-E glass options available in New Zealand were developed in the 2010s, mostly designed to suit European conditions and don’t cater for overheating. Solux-E was locally designed by AGP to specifically cater the New Zealand atmosphere, making it the best solution for New Zealand home owners. Even better, Solux-E comes with the additional free feature of Argon gas, which minimises heat exchange through the window offering even more improved energy efficiency.

In a nutshell, Thermal Heart+ and Solux-E are the perfect solutions to achieving the new healthy home standards. And it doesn’t stop there. At Vantage, there are other advanced solutions available to help homeowners achieve their desired results.
