A PLETHORA OF PILES- HEARLD ISLAND

Maddren love a challenge... and this site certainly offered that! With the brief to maximise outstanding sea views and endless sunshine, we needed more than a little Maddren Magic.

After demolishing and clearing the site, a new house is now proudly sitting pretty on a plethora of piles 1.8m above ground (with some poles at a depth of up to 7m below the ground). The house has been carefully designed and engineered to take on the challenges offered by this site on Herald Island. Not only is it in a sea flooding zone and under the flight path of the Whenuapai airbase, the geotech report also indicated uncompacted marine sediment.

You may not realise from the road, but the north facing monopitch design incorporates a huge deck facing the sea, with 2 separate outdoor covered areas positioned perfectly for entertaining no matter where the wind is coming from.

With the finishing touches being done, the client will soon be enjoying the most beautiful sunsets without the worry of an encroaching high tide again!
